mini tour de boone 2012

This is a rough draft, but you'll get the main idea. The finalized event will be listed on this post, but it may take me a while to figure out completely.

2012 mini tour de boone (dates tba)

number of participants expected to attend: 0-1

the mini tour de boone is inspired by the tour de france. ironically, participants will not see much of boone during their rides, as they will take place on stationary bikes inside the broyhill wellness center.

each stage will be dedicated to a place in boone that is, in the opinion of the event organizer, significant. to receive credit for completing the mini tour de boone, participants must turn in a photo of themselves at each of these significant places. the date of the photo does not matter, but all photos must be turned in before the start of the final stage.

each year, a new "course" will be designed. a "course" will consist of 5 "stages." a "stage" will consist of a distance to be traveled, electronically, on the stationary bike and a location. distance and location are both important, as described in the previous paragraph. the total distance of the tour will always be 512 miles (an approximate distance of how far one would have to walk from boone, nc to paris, il), and no stage will ever be longer than 112 miles.

the leader, after each day, will be awarded the yellow jersey (it's not required to be worn). it has not been decided what the jersey will actually look like, but it will not be a traditional cycling jersey. the winner of the event will get to keep the stinky shirt.

since this is america, distances will be measured in miles.

stages (all cycling takes place at the broyhill wellness center, on stationary bikes)

stage 1 (monday, tba): black cat burrito, 112 miles

stage 2 (tuesday, tba): the yosef statue on the app. st. campus (on rivers st.), 89 miles

stage 3 (wednesday, tba): inside the wal-mart (with app. st. merchandise in view), 103 miles

stage 4 (thursday, tba): mellow mushroom, 102 miles

stage 5 (friday, tba): the broyhill wellness center, 106 miles

total mileage: 512 miles (the approximate walking distance from boone, nc to paris, il)

  1. I think winter would be a great time to do this event!

  2. I agree. If the roads are too bad, we can just run to each of the places on the "tour."

Downside is that it's going to cost $30, unless you already have a membership at the Wellness Center.
